A Tale of Two remedies – Apis 30c and Ledum 30c

Four years ago, my family was visiting family in Michigan. We were relaxing by the lakeside cabin when a hornet managed to get inside. My mother-in-law swatted it and was stung in the process. She asked me if I had a remedy to help with the pain. I took out my blue Helios homeopathic first aid kit and gave her a dose of Apis 30c. I fully expected it to take the pain away, but it didn’t. Instead, she found a cream and applied it to the sting mark, and she said it helped relieve the pain.

This cream contained potentized remedies; it was not herbal. It was almost homeopathic because it contained a remedy that matched the symptoms. (It was not a homeopathic cream because it contained many remedies.)

Naturally, I was curious to see what remedy was in the cream, and I saw the ingredient Ledum palustre 6x. I made a rookie mistake, but I was still a beginner.

I instantly thought of the remedy Apis 30c because she was stung by a hornet. Apis 30c can relieve bee stings, but the symptoms HAVE TO MATCH the remedy. At that moment, she needed a remedy to alleviate the pain at the site of penetration from the puncture wound; she needed Ledum 30c.

A few years later, hornets infested my patio. I found the nest accidentally while bringing in groceries. (I unknowingly placed a few bags next to a hornet’s nest and did not realize my mistake until I was stung.)

I immediately took a dose of Ledum 30c (dry dose), and the pain dissipated in minutes. I took my daughters to the pool and went swimming; it was like it never happened. I was only stung several times, but the results were remarkable. My skin tends to react to insect bites, but I had no swelling or discomfort after the remedy. The next day, the area was sore, so I took one more dose of Ledum 30c, and the pain was gone for good.

My husband, however, allowed me to see the action of Apis 30; he knocked down those hornet nests and was stung. Of course, he didn’t tell me until his hand was swollen. The swelling was fluid-filled and better from cold applications. Those symptoms are an indication of Apis 30c. There was much improvement after one dose, and after a few doses, the swelling was GONE.

Individualization is what makes homeopathic medicine unique, and it also makes it powerful. Good results are obtained if you follow the principles of homeopathy and match the remedy to the symptoms.

An allergic reaction is a medical emergency, and homeopathy is not a replacement for an epi-pen. Allergies can improve with chronic constitutional care, but reactions to a sting must be dealt with immediately.

Other homeopathic remedies may work for a bee or wasp sting, depending on the symptoms. (Carbolic acid and Vesper are two that come to mind).

Apis 30c and Ledum 30c work for most people, and I always keep them in my purse.
